Scare Tactic or Ignorance?

Drudge Report Headline:

'500 million Americans lose jobs every month'

This is Nancy Pelosi, the top Democrat in Congress, saying this.  I don't think she can declare ignorance.  Just in case you didn't get the memo, as of July 2008, the estimated population of the entire nation of America was 303 million and some change...

My opinion on this (me pretending to speak for Pelosi):  "Look at me, my name's Nancy Pelosi!  I'm a big liberal/socialist in charge of Congress!  Fear me!  I want everyone to be scared that the world is caving in on itself and the only way it can be saved is if me and my liberal/socialist friends with our extravagantly ridiculous plans like trillion dollar 'stimulous' packages succeed!  Submit your will to me or else!  Listen to me 'sheeple' of America!  Now get me my private jet so I can go eat caviar with Hugo Chavez!  OR ELSE!"  .....I kid....but, not really :)

  2. Can I post all the flubs of McCain..especially the greatest one where he calls his wife a cun* under his breath for talking about his hair and called her a make up wearing whore....ooh..man has a temper...that said, Pelosi could be a stronger leader but as a true independent I'm not motivated by "Party representation" and trying to make the others look silly unless I've been pushed in a corner..she meant 500,000 of course and the issue isnt her blunder but the fact that 568,000 new claims were made last month.......we in historic times..my company in a thriving industry had to make layoffs to get our stores to a breakeven point....Just My Opinion on the matter

Consider the irony of a republican, post Bush, making a big ta doo about a politician misspeaking and getting single *number* wrong. Really? This makes a person dumb?

Michael, you fancy yourself a conservative and a proud republican Fox News watcher. Instead of this childish stuff, why don't you try your hand at some grownup, serious, criticism/analysis of these issues. This will require not apeing the behavior you observe on the FOX channel but I promise you the experience is much more rewarding. And you will learn new things which is always a good thing.

For instance, why don't you give this article a little look over and see what you think:

    Now isn't that interesting?

Nancy misspoke but her point still stands, and it's too low. Update:

    ***
WASHINGTON – New jobless claims jumped far more than expected last week in an already dismal labor market, and there's no relief in sight for workers as mass layoffs persist.

The Labor Department reported Thursday that the number of laid-off workers seeking jobless benefits rose last week to a seasonally adjusted 626,000, from the previous week's upwardly revised figure of 591,000. The latest total is far more than analysts' expectations of 583,000.

  5. Darrel, thank you for the much welcomed criticism. I did your suggested reading. Keep it coming!

    Two responses:
1-I didn't call her 'dumb'. In fact, I said "I don't think she can declare ignorance."
2-I am not, as you put it, "apeing the behavior observed on the FOX Channel", rather I watch it for the simple fact that the style of reporting and subjects reported on (since no one can argue that all networks, regardless of their claims, include some bias) are more befitting of my personality and views.

Also, I'm not avoiding certain other talking points that could come from this exchange alone, rather, I'm saving certain things for a planned future blog addressing more of where I'm coming from.

Thanks again, and I look forward to future banter!

I was referring to the picture you posted that says: "Nancy Pelosi: Dumber than soap." That seemed to be an endorsement of the idea that she was in some way dumb because of this simple, single, word flub. That would be dumb.

I am not sure what you mean by: "I don't think she can declare ignorance." Obviously it was a mistake.

That's good to hear. We'll see.

    DAR
Yes they do. All networks, including NPR, have for a long time hosted more republican guests than democratic guests so the bias is pretty clear.

  8. Oh, about that "Dumber than soap" quote, I had nothing to do with that. That was the title attached to the video that was on Youtube by whomever posted it.

Thanks for the compliment on the blog!

I know. But personal responsibility and all that. When you post something, picture or whatever, it's an endorsement and you end up getting a little of it on ya.

  10. Seems like ignorance...shes had many a word "flub"..the dumbness I'm not so sure of; she manages to fly around on a carbon emitting personal jet paid for with tax payer $$ while simultaneously warning us of the horrific effects of global warming....nice blog Moser to the Extreme :)
